We just had our first snow of the season in Stowe up on Mt. Mansfield this past Sunday. It snowed up there again last night and it has been spitting snow down in the village all day. We know it probably will not "stick" but it is always exciting. It's kind of like a verification that "yes, winter will be back again this year" which is good since I just bought a new pair of back country skis.
Even thought I hate to see the warm days of summer leave, I have to admit (and I have to be careful who I admit this to) the first real shot of cold air feels good and exciting. Around here there are two kinds of people when it comes to the first sight of snow on the mountain; those who dread the inevitable coming of winter and those of us who can't wait for it. After all, it's coming either way so you might as well embrace it.
